- Story Text: The transgender community of India on Wednesday (July 08) came forward to spread awareness about coronavirus and precautionary measures in slums of Chennai.
Chennai has been one of the worst affected cities in India by coronavirus with a total of 71,230 positive cases. Closely knitted, unsanitary slums were the natural victim.
"At present, we are doing the awareness around the slum areas, like, among people who are not very educated," said a transgender activist and model, Keerthi.
Armed with placards and masks, the community went door to door in Chennai slums and interacted with people demonstrating precautionary measures, including the correct method of washing hands thoroughly.
India is the third worst-affected country in the world by the pandemic, with more than 700,000 cases. Most of the affected have been closed cluster areas in metro cities. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
