- Story Text: Fans of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan held special prayers in different parts of India on Tuesday (July 14) as they wished for his speedy recovery after the star and other members of his family tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.
Bachchan, 77, and his son, Abhishek, remained in hospital in Mumbai while daughter-in-law and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and his eight-year-old granddaughter, who also tested positive were at home, quarantined.
The Bachchans are the highest-profile Indians to have contracted the virus, which is spreading faster after a months-long lockdown was eased at the end of May to revive a battered economy.
While devotees in eastern Asansol city performed 'Rudrabhishek' (ritual of pouring water, cow milk, coconut water to wash the Shiva lingam, an abstract representation of Hindu god, Shiva), in northern Agra city, a prayer ceremony was held by his fans for the well-being of the megastar and his family.
India, along with the United States and Brazil, tops the global caseload of infections. The positive cases in the country have reached 906,752 with 23,727 deaths. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
