Here is a timeline of 100 years of U.S. presidential visits - from Woodrow Wilson in 1918, up until Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump.
U.S. PRESIDENT WOODROW WILSON
1918 - Woodrow Wilson came to Europe after the end of World War One and spent several days with King George V at Buckingham Palace, the monarch's London residence, the first American president to stay there. Wilson and his wife Margaret took a horse-drawn carriage down the mall, surrounded by crowds of well-wishers. During the trip, Wilson also met British Prime Minister David Lloyd George in Manchester. He visited the UK from December 26-31, which included a trip to Carlisle.
U.S. PRESIDENT HARRY TRUMAN
1945 - Harry Truman met King George VI for an informal meeting on the coast of Plymouth after attending the Potsdam Conference in Germany, which was held to negotiate the terms for the end of World War Two. Truman was travelling on naval ship U.S.S. Augusta, and met the king at sea before returning to the United States. The Potsdam Conference was held two months after the surrender of Germany and was attended by Soviet leader Josef Stalin, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Truman.
U.S. PRESIDENT DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
1959 - Dwight D. Eisenhower made an informal visit to meet Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and Queen Elizabeth. During the visit, Eisenhower met former Prime Minister Winston Churchill at a stage party held at the U.S. ambassador's private residence Winfield House, which marked 20 years since the attack by Germany on Poland which triggered World War Two.
U.S. PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY
1961 - John F. Kennedy first made a private visit to the queen and Prime Minister Harold Macmillan.
1963 - Kennedy made a second visit to Britain to meet Macmillan for informal talks at his Sussex country home, Birch Grove, during the height of the Cold War. The two leaders travelled by helicopter from Gatwick Airport. At Birch Grove, a crowd of "ban the bomb" demonstrators had gathered to protest against the use of nuclear weapons. Three protesters were allowed into the residence to give a letter to President Kennedy. (Ahead of the UK visit, Kennedy made a trip to Ireland where he met with President Eamon De Valera)
U.S. PRESIDENT RICHARD NIXON
1969 - Richard Nixon dined with the queen and visited Prime Minister Harold Wilson in February. In August, Nixon returned for an informal meeting at Mildenhall U.S. Air Force Base.
1970 - Nixon met the queen and Prime Minister Edward Heath at Chequers
U.S. PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER

1982 - Ronald Reagan made a state visit to the UK. He stayed at Windsor Castle, the queen's residence, near London. The queen and Reagan went riding. The grocers' daughter and the Hollywood film star struck up a rapport on the basis of their shared commitment to small government, economic liberalism and anti-communism.
1984 - Reagan made a second visit to London to attend an economic summit. He met with Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth.
1988 - Reagan's third visit to Britain, where he met Thatcher and the queen. Reagan and Thatcher were the defining image of British and U.S. relations by the end of the Cold War.
