A strong message by G7 leaders in support of values based multilateralism will lead to a dispute with Russia and China, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday (June 11) as she arrived for a two-day summit in the United Kingdom.
Merkel said she was looking forward to meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden who "stands for the commitment to multilateralism which we were missing in recent years."
"We will find strong words here in support of multilateralism and also for values based multilateralism which will lead to a dispute with Russia and in some aspects also with China," the chancellor said.
Yet, Merkel added that on issues such as climate protection and biodiversity, "we will never find solutions without China."
