- Summary: LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (JUNE 30, 2021) (REUTERS) VARIOUS OF PEOPLE WALKING ON LONDON BRIDGE CITY OF LONDON (SOUNDBITE) (English) 25 YEAR OLD SUPPLY CHAIN ANALYST, SAM DIXEY, SAYING: "Amazing, I think we've still got a long way to go, I think Saturday will be the key one but the semi-final next weekend in Wembley and the final at Wembley if we get past Saturday will just be incredible. It was very very loud last night, you could hear everyone chanting and even before the first goal went in we were in a bit of a lag and you could hear the cheer when they scored before we even saw the score. It was amazing, it was that loud." PEOPLE WALKING (SOUNDBITE) (English) 21 YEAR OLD ADMINISTRATOR, MOLLY GRACE, SAYING: "I think we worked together a lot better this time, there was a lot more communication on the pitch and people were passing for once." PEOPLE ON LONDON BRIDGE (SOUNDBITE) (English) 58 YEAR OLD INSURANCE WORKER, PETER SMITH, SAYING: "I think it's the management of the team, Southgate has done a really good job, he's actually created a team of players rather than a series of individuals so I think it's all down to him and to the team responding as well. It's similar to what we did and 66 when we were a good team then as well so we actually played as a team, so maybe will go there again." RIVER THAMES (SOUNDBITE) (English), 22 YEAR OLD FINANCIAL SERVICES WORKER, TOM AUSTIN, SAYING: "I guess actually the home advantage probably helped, to be in London probably helped and actually I think everyone just wanted a bit of a boost, and yeah I think 40,000 people at Wembley probably helped a lot especially after how awful the last year has been, how quiet it's been, I'm guessing it probably did a good job." TOWER OF LONDON VARIOUS OF FLAGS ON LONDON BRIDGE (SOUNDBITE) (English) 21 YEAR OLD ADMINISTRATOR, MOLLY GRACE, SAYING: "I'm not jinxing it, I think we've got an opportunity, hopefully we're not going to lose it and do it wrong." (SOUNDBITE) (English), 22 YEAR OLD FINANCIAL SERVICES WORKER, TOM AUSTIN, SAYING: "I'd like to think so but we usually don't make it so will have to see." (SOUNDBITE) (English) 25 YEAR OLD SUPPLY CHAIN ANALYST, SAM DIXEY, SAYING: "If you look at the chances yeah, but with England you never know, like the amount of times we've been close and had heartbreak, I'd love to say yes but I'm also cautious until you make it to the final that we'll be there." - Story Text: England fans were revelling in their 2-0 defeat of Germany on Wednesday (June 30), a victory that sends them to the quarter-finals against Ukraine in Italy.
Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane Kane struck late goals in Tuesday's last-16 match to guide England to their first knockout victory over Germany since the 1966 World Cup final.
While the build-up to the match was dominated by talk of historic and bitter tournament losses to Germany, England's focus will now be on making some history of their own.
That said, many fans said they didn't dare to hope that the team will make it all the way to the final just yet.
England will head into their quarter-final in Rome on Saturday (July 3) knowing victory will set-up a semi and potentially a final on home turf back at Wembley.
