- Story Text: A worker was rescued from the wooden debris of a small building that collapsed while under construction in Washington, D.C.
A tweet by the Washington Fire and Emergency Medical Services department identified the person as an adult male and reported his condition as conscious.
Several people had been injured in the collapse before being removed from the scene by the search and rescue crews.
The man who was trapped beneath the debris was rescued approximately two hours after the building collapsed. A major rainstorm was passing through the Washington area at the time of the collapse but it was not immediately known whether the rain contributed to the instability of the construction site.
The structure is about five miles north of the Capitol building, just east of Rock Creek Park. The incident in the U.S. capital comes a week after a condominium tower collapse in Surfside, Florida.
