- Story Text: It was penalty heartbreak once again for England as they lost to Italy in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday (July 11) and supporters in London's Trafalgar Square were left dejected.
The night started well for England when Luke Shaw gave them the lead after two minutes and the fan zone roared with delight.
However, it turned into a nervous night after Leonardo Bonucci's equaliser in the 67th minute, and neither team able to break the deadlock before the penalty shootout.
England took the early advantage in the shootout when Jordan Pickford saved Andrea Belotti's kick but three missed penalties in a row cost England dearly and they lost it when Bukayo Saka's shot was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The England supporters could only watch on in despair as their 55-year wait for a major will now be at least 56 until next year's World Cup in Qatar.
For Italy, it's a second European Championship title to add to their four World Cups.
