South Korean company Hankook Mirae Technology has unveiled their prototype of a giant humanoid robot controlled by human pilot inside. The 1.5 ton bipedal robot called 'METHOD-2' has been in development since 2014.
"Our robot is the world's first bipedal robot that humans can get on. The robot can be operated and controlled by a person riding on it, and it can also be remote-controlled without a person on the robot. The robot is designed and built to reach extreme places and environment where humans can't go, and to work accurately with great strength," said Chairman of the company, Yang Jin-Ho, said.
According to the company, the enormous machine is fully functional for 1.5 hours continuously on battery power.
"Our robot could be used in the field of entertainment such as movies or theme parks, and in industrial and construction areas that need a great strength and exquisite support. Besides that, we've been getting a lot of inquiries for military purposes as well," Yang added.
Vitaly Bulgarov, an artist who has worked for movies Transformers 4, Robocop and Blizzard games, designed the exterior shell of robot, according to the company and designer's website.
The company said the robot will be ready for commercialization by end of 2017 at a price of around 10 billion won ($8.29 million USD). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
