- Story Text: Record temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) are driving Kyiv residents from their stuffy apartments to beaches of Dnipro river in an attempt to down.
Ukraine's weather service said in June and July twelve records were set in the capital, including the highest daytime temperatures in the last 60 years and the highest night temperatures in the Ukraine's history.
"He can't stand the heat. You see, I wet him to make it a little easier for him," said Kyiv resident Tetiana, who came to the beach with her dog. Like many others, she came to the beach on Friday (July 16) to flee the heat.
Some beachgoers, however, were pleased with the weather.
"We survived the winter and, thank God, a really good summer has come," businessman Vyacheslav Chizhykov told Reuters.
Climate change has already affected the weather of central Ukraine, which used to see snowy winters and mild summers. In recent years the country has recorded unusually warm winters and extremely hot summer months.
Ukrainian power engineers have warned about a "threatening situation" regarding the country's power supply, as it sees a sharp increase in power consumption while power plants face a fuel shortage.
