Sometimes there is even current in the muddy water on the waterlogged road and there are other problems as well. When we tell the government and administration about it, they invested so much money and supposedly improved the infrastructure but see, this is the condition after a few hours of rain. When we ask them to take action, they tell us that they will certainly do it, but they don't walk the talk. It hits the poor the most. All the poor go to work and they get stuck here due to the unavailability of vehicles amid such waterlogging. Sometimes they get stuck for more than four to five hours." I am told that the water will recede by 1 in the afternoon (GMT 0730) while the vaccination has to begin at 8 in the morning (GMT 0230). I come here from Dharavi and I have been seeing it over the years and I suffer every monsoon because of this waterlogged road. They keep showing that they are doing work, putting up big pipelines and all. But this is the condition after just a few hours of rain. Water is not receding, people are facing problems, and vaccination is stopped there." - Story Text: Heavy rains in the wee hours of Friday (July 16) led to waterlogging in many areas of India's financial capital Mumbai, throwing life out of gear for the residents.
Rainwater also partially submerged railway tracks affecting the local train movement and other public transportation.
The city municipal corporation said Mumbai has received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, up to 127.16 mm of rain in Western suburbs.
Indian Meteorological Department has predicted 'heavy' to 'very heavy' rainfall for the rest of the day as well.
Mumbai is looking to turn itself into a global financial hub but large parts of the city struggle to cope with annual monsoon rains, as severely clogged drains and waterways make the city increasingly vulnerable to chaos. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
