- Story Text:Spain's coast guard transported 18 migrants and the body of a dead man to the port of Arguineguin in Gran Canaria on Friday (July 16) after they were found in a dinghy in the Atlantic Ocean 80 miles off the island's coast.
The dinghy was found earlier in the day by a coast guard plane.
When the emergency team arrived they found the dead body of a male among the people travelling in the dinghy.
So far this year more than 6,952 migrants have made the dangerous crossing from Africa to the Canaries archipelago, over twice as many as in the same period in 2020, Spanish interior ministry data show.
