- Story Text: Healthcare workers crossed hilly terrains to fully vaccinate villagers of the northern Rajouri district of India's federal Jammu and Kashmir territory.
With 2,116 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir, healthcare workers are travelling to border areas and higher reaches like, Rajouri for vaccinating people to prevent the spread of the virus.
"Two village councils have been vaccinated 100 percent as of now, one is Upper Kandi (Kandi Upper) and the other is Kalal Kass. In these areas all the beneficiaries above 18 and 45 have received the first dose of vaccine," said Block Medical Officer, Kandi, Dr. Iqbal Malik on Saturday (July 17).
Healthcare workers crossed rivers and climbed rocky hills to reach villagers for door-to-door vaccination.
The federal government aims to inoculate all of the country's estimated 944 million adults by December, target health experts have said is ambitious, as only 8% of that number is currently vaccinated with the mandatory two doses.
Several states have reported vaccine shortages, with many inoculation centers shut and people having to wait for long hours at others for their shot.
India on Saturday (July 17) reported 38,079 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 31.06 million, health ministry data showed. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
