- Story Text: French President Emmanuel Macron attended a virtual meeting with heads of state of the Southern Pacific region on Monday (July 19) to discuss a range of issues in the region, where France has several territories.
The French leader addressed various issues such as COVID-19, maritime security in the region, the 2024 Paris Olympics and the protection of the environment.
This fifth edition of the France-Oceania Summit brought together leaders of the various states and territories of the region, which include Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and French Polynesia among others.
The summit was originally supposed to take place in French Polynesia but was instead held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
