- Story Text: Heavy rains and subsequent deluge in parts of northern India on Monday (July 19) threw normal life out of gear as it caused waterlogging and disrupted traffic movement.
The streets of New Delhi and neighbouring Gurugram city were flooded causing difficulties to commuters who were either stuck in traffic or were wading through waterlogged roads to reach their destinations.
A bus was seen submerged on a heavily waterlogged underpass in the Prahladpur area of the Indian capital.
In some parts of the city, waterlogging affected small stall owners who were not able to start their work amid the rainfall and in the absence of customers.
"We do not have work. There is water (everywhere) so, who will come here to see or buy anything? We are not able to cook as well as water has entered inside our houses in the slum," said a New Delhi resident, Sunil.
Meanwhile, three people were killed after a cloudburst in India's northern Uttarkashi district and houses were damaged in another cloudburst in the Tehri region of Uttrakhand state.
Annual monsoon rains are important for India and its agriculture-based economy. However, with insufficient preparations, poor drainage system, and increasing deforestation, a large portion of India struggles with floods during this season leading to several deaths and loss of property worth millions. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
