Incessant rainfall across northern India over the past one week brought respite from prevailing heatwave but lead to serious waterlogging concerns in some cities on Tuesday (July 20).
Yamuna River, ploughed by pollution over the past few weeks, was seen flowing near the danger mark in the Indian capital New Delhi. The river water entered residential areas of Delhi forcing residents to move out and sitting on waterlogged roads on plastic chairs as a mark of mild protest.
Water entered a parking lot in India's financial capital Mumbai, submerging at least 400 vehicles in the Kandivali area on Monday (July 19). The water was later pumped out using a generator.
Meanwhile, in the northern Etah town of Uttar Pradesh state, rainwater entered a police station and accumulated up to knee-deep level, submerging police vehicles and most of the station.
Annual monsoon rains are important for India and its agriculture-based economy. However, with insufficient preparations, poor drainage system, and increasing deforestation, a large portion of India struggles with floods during this season leading to several deaths and loss of property worth millions. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
