- Story Text: Two weeks after struggling Borussia Moenchengladbach named their new coach, Dieter Hecking spoke to reporters in his new position for the first time on Wednesday (January 4).
"I had a few clubs in mind and said to myself that if they called I would be interested," Hecking said, some two months after he was sacked by Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg.
"Since I am sitting here today it shows you that Borussia Moenchengladbach was one of those clubs. During the relatively short period when I was out there were a few requests, also from the Bundesliga but I was not excited enough to say 'I'm going back immediately'."
The 52-year-old had been fired by Wolfsburg, where he had been since 2012, in mid-October after his team took only six points from their first seven games of the season.
"I do see the potential with Borussia that we can form a successful future together. That's the reason why I'm no longer home... taking care of my garden and walking the dogs or playing golf. I am drawn back to the pitch," said Hecking.
