- Story Text: Swelling rivers in India inundated several residential areas displacing thousands on Friday (August 13).
Damaging houses and forcing occupants to move out, floods left locals in India's eastern West Midnapur district without food and they were taking shelter under tarpaulin tents on the roadside.
In northern Uttar Pradesh state where more than 1,200 villages are affected by flood according to state data, people were moved to relief shelters in Prayagraj district.
State Chief, Yogi Adityanath did an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions on Friday.
Annual rainfall is essential in India as rains support two-thirds of the 1.25 billion population living in rural areas who rely on farming. But excessive rainfalls cause problems like floods, landslides, and water-borne diseases. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
