- Story Text: Holding their smartphones and slowly walking through the historical village of Deir Ghassaneh, two Palestinian brothers aged nine and 13, Ahmed and Ali, are busy producing yet another video for their Facebook page 'This is Palestine'.
The idea for the project was born during a school lesson on the village of Lifta, a village now abandoned that Palestinians left or were forced to flee during the 1948 war.
Since then, their vlog has taken both brothers out of the classroom and onto a tour of various historical sites across the Palestinian territories.
The West Bank is scattered with sites holy to Christians, Muslims and Jews, and its mountainous landscape offers breathtaking views from the hills of Hebron and Nablus down to the hypersaline Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.
Not only personal interest but also the desire to promote local tourism is driving the boys. After its capture by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war, the West Bank has been home to Israeli military bases and checkpoints that restrict Palestinian movement.
Hoping to introduce children who are not able to visit these sites to their history, Ahmed and Ali have now produced about 14 videos.
With the help of their parents, they have gained more than 6000 followers since they launched their vlog in July.
