- Story Text: A non-governmental organization headed by an industrialist is planting tree saplings in Saurashtra region of western India to spread the importance of trees and a greener environment for the planet.
Vijay Dobariya's Sadbhavna Vrudhashram has planted over 700,000 tree saplings along highways and villages in a 1,000 km area in Saurashtra since 2014 in. The non-governmental not only plants the trees but also looks after them and waters them regularly.
"There are no factories that produce oxygen," said Dobariya, who is in his early 40s.
The green mission has also provided to around 500 people, including 200 women.
India is aiming to increase its forest area and green cover to a third of its total land area by 2030, up from about a quarter, as part of its commitment to reduce carbon emissions and meet pledges made under the Paris climate accord. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
