- Story Text: Theatres in India's eastern Ranchi city are struggling to survive with huge losses as people are avoiding public places despite coronavirus restrictions being eased.
India is slowly reopening its economy as the daily coronavirus cases have started to fall. However, despite some theatres, reopening people are not coming to watch the movies due to the fear of being infected with the virus after the second wave of the pandemic.
The pandemic has made people shift to digital platforms, who now are preferring to watch movies at home to ensure their safety and avoid crowd.
No moviegoers were there at theatres in Ranchi city as the halls, majority of them, were shut or wore a deserted look on Saturday (August 28).
One of the theatres was being used to store materials after being turned into a godown.
"There were 50 cinema halls in entire Jharkhand that were running but now only nine cinema halls are running," said producer and director, Rishi Prakash Mishra.
India reported 45,083 new coronavirus infections and 460 deaths on Sunday (August 29), according to data from the health ministry, driven by surging cases in the southern state of Kerala. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
