They do not have a legal license to carry out attacks in Afghanistan arbitrarily." VARIOUS OF VEHICLES DRIVING ON STREET (SOUNDBITE) (Dari) KABUL RESIDENT, MOHAMMAD NEMAN, SAYING: "The United States was here for 20 years to serve Afghanistan, but all the infrastructure it built was temporary and not permanent. When Russia came here, it built buildings for the people and the government that still stands, but the Americans destroyed everything they built before leaving the country, just like the government they built here. Our president fled before the United States left. Also, unemployment is so high that on every street, you can see about 50 unemployed people." If they (the Taliban and the politicians) come together, the youth will be willing to stay and obey the law, but given the current situation we see, no youth would like to stay in Kabul." - Story Text: Kabul residents on Monday (August 30) criticized the recent airstrikes launched by United States in the country, saying that U.S. has always pursued its own interests and sacrificed Afghans in this way.
A U.S. drone strike on Sunday (August 29) hit a suicide bomber in a vehicle who was aiming to attack Kabul airport as U.S. forces worked to complete a withdrawal that will end two decades of military involvement in Afghanistan, U.S. officials said.
The strike, first reported by Reuters, is the second carried out by U.S. forces in Afghanistan since an Islamic State suicide bomber struck the airport on Thursday, killing 13 U.S. troops and scores of Afghan civilians trying to flee the country.
"They (Americans) do not have a legal license to carry out attacks in Afghanistan arbitrarily," said Borhan Nezami, a Kabul resident.
The collapse of the Afghan government leaves an administrative vacuum that has led to fears of an economic crisis and widespread hunger.
Prices for commodities like flour, oil and rice are rapidly rising and the currency is plunging, with money changers across the border in Pakistan already refusing to accept the afghani. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
