- Story Text: Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges, who has been nominated for 6 Academy Awards since 1972, was immortalised in Hollywood by having his hands and feet put in cement at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Friday (January 6).
Bridges has been getting awards buzz for his role as a sheriff in 'Hell or High Water' and will be up in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 8).
Actors Chris Pine and Gil Birmingham as well as the film's director David Mackenzie and writer Taylor Sheridan turned out to support Bridges in his honor alongside Bridge's wife Susan Geston and Hollywood star Sharon Stone.
Talking of receiving the honor, Bridges replied "What can you say? It's sort of a big general kind of thing. It's not about one specific movie but just sort of celebrating being part of the family of storytellers and that really hits the spot."
Bridges admitted on stage he didn't want to pursue a career in acting, following in the footsteps of his actor father Lloyd Bridges. However, he soon succumbed and over the past 45 years has become an iconic actor in Hollywood for his roles in 'The Last Picture Show', 'Starman' and 'True Grit'. However, Bridges also spends his time pursuing photography, music, painting and charitable work.
He admitted during an interview after the ceremony that he is picky when it comes to choosing his roles, saying "Usually it's to do with being part of a movie that I'd like to see and those movies are the ones that kind of surprise you where the film maker's ahead of you, ahead of the audience and you don't know quite what's going to happen so that's attractive.
"I do my best to actually not engage because I know what it costs. It means being away from your family and some other projects you won't be able to do and so forth so I really to do my best to not… to not work, right? Then there's the ones that are so good they just pull you in - that's the one I end up doing, you know," he added.
During a photocall after the ceremony and away from the microphone, Bridges started trying to tell press about something he'd forgotten to say on the podium.
"You know, one of the themes of our movie, 'Hell or High Water' dealt with the consequences of only looking out for your own self interests, whether you're a poor rancher or a banker or an oil company and the consequences to that," he said.
"I mentioned Standing Rock because those people that were at Standing Rock and all their supporters - these guys, they're not only looking out for their own self interests but for all our interests, making this a planet where we can all thrive and survive, right?"
After the ceremony, it became aware that Bridges has drawn his iconic character The Dude from 'The Big Lebowski' into his cement plate. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
