- Story Text:Hundreds of Argentines took to the country's streets on Saturday (September 4) to protest the government's handling of the pandemic, laying rocks near the Casa Rosada to represent the more than 112,000 people who died from COVID-19 in the country.
Called the 'Marcha de las Piedras', or 'March of the Rocks' in English, protesters gathered outside the government palace in Buenos Aires.
Many of the rocks laid out by the protesters featured messages of love and loss for victims gone too soon.
They also expressed public anger of President Alberto Fernandez, after he admitted a gathering was held in contravention of lockdown rules to celebrate the birthday of First Lady Fabiola Yanez.
After months of lockdown, Argentina is easing restrictions to allow for gatherings such as these to remember the victims of the pandemic.
Argentina has registered over 5 million COVID-19 cases and 112,356 deaths.
