- Story Text: The music video of Thai-born K-pop singer Lalisa 'Lisa' Manoban's first solo single is driving up sales of glittery traditional costumes in Bangkok, shop owners said on Sunday (September 12).
In the"LALISA" video, Lisa wears Thai-inspired costumes and her fans as well as that of the K-pop girl group she is a part of, Black Pink, are rushing to the shops in Bangkok's Sampeng wholesale market.
"A lot of people have been ordering from us via our online shop, while here at the shop, we've had a constant flow of customers coming up to us, showing interest everyday, the whole day, asking what kinds of head gear we have, what style, what color," says Fashion Point traditional costume accessory shop staff Samorn Suthiwong.
The video has had 100 million views and some Thais said they felt it made their own culture more accessible to them.
"I think it's a perfect combination (of fashion and tradition). This makes it easier for Thai culture to be applied to our everyday lives," said customer Mew Lalita.
The handmade head accessories cost between 250 to 1000 baht (7.65 - 30.58 USD) per piece and are mainly used in ceremonies or for traditional dance and other traditional settings.
The shop also ships the products overseas, namely China and its Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Tibet, Myanmar and Cambodia.
