I mean politically there has been some difficulties over the last few years. But I think generally speaking, businesspeople are very practical and pragmatic, and they try to make the decisions that make most sense for them. That being said, as you know, just in the last few days there's been some positive developments between Canada and China. And I think that certainly allows for stronger foundation going forward as well. And it makes for some more positive atmosphere going forward and I hope that we can build on those positive developments in order to do even more business in the ways that benefit both countries." - Story Text: Commercial plane makers touted strong post-pandemic prospects for the Chinese aviation market as the country's largest air show opened on Tuesday (September 28), with an increasing share of the spoils expected to go to domestic manufacturers.
Airbus China CEO George Xu said on the show's sidelines that the manufacturer was still in talks with China about certification, which along with support services was the key to customer confidence in placing orders.
The normally biennial Airshow China in the southern city of Zhuhai, delayed by a year because of COVID-19, is being held from Sept. 28 to Oct. 3, allowing Beijing to parade its growing aviation prowess.
China is a key hunting ground for deals for foreign aviation firms, thanks to the quick recovery in domestic travel since the depths of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, a Canadian diplomat at the air show downplayed the impact of the case of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou who was detained in Canada in 2018 and released last week, on business between the two countries.
