- Story Text:A Hong Kong news website is among those nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
Hong Kong Free Press (HKFP) was founded in 2015 by British-born Hong Kong resident Tom Grundy, who is also the editor-in-chief.
According to its website it is "a non-profit, impartial, English-language newspaper - run by journalists and completely independent," and funded entirely by private donations.
The nomination of Hong Kong Free Press took place in January this year, led by three Norwegian politicians.
Critics see a sweeping national security law imposed by Beijing in June 2020 as a blunt tool to stifle dissent and curb media freedom and other liberties. The law calls for tougher media regulation and supervisionPX. The government says rights and freedoms remain intact.
"HKFP is committed to keeping independent media alive in Hong Kong," said in the nomination, shared by Terje BreiviK, one of the three Norwegian politicians on his facebook post. "Freedom of the press is an integral part of creating lasting peace and fellowship both within and between nations. Hong Kong Free Press would therefore be a worthy recipient of the Nobel peace prize."
