- Story Text: Devotees across India are celebrating the nine-day 'Navratri' festival by dedicating their festive instalments to key social causes in which they believe.
Organisers in eastern Kolkata city installed 'pandal', a temporary festive structure, dedicated to 200 years of Bengal Renaissance where the Hindu warrior Goddess Durga was presented in the form of a book, with a hymn dedicated to her written in Sanskrit.
There were also portraits of various personalities of the renaissance with a bookshelf dedicated to each of them.
In the country's financial capital Mumbai, organisers did away with luxurious installations made of thermocol and other non-degradable material harmful to the environment and instead installed decoration in form of tiny colourful lights.
In western Gujarat state, locals performed 'Garba' -a folk dance, to their heart's content at a local celebration wearing colourful and shiny dresses as an orchestra played on the stage.
'Navratri' is a nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga and her various incarnations. Devotees observe fast during these nine days and temporary festive instalments known as 'pandals' are set up, where they pray and participate in the festivities.
'Navratri' culminates on the tenth day, which is celebrated as 'Dussehra'. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
