- Story Text:Paris opened its second reception centre for migrants on Thursday (January 19) aimed at sheltering women and families.
The first twenty people were welcomed at the humanitarian centre in Ivry-sur-Seine near the capital, managed by French non-profit organisation Emmaus Solidarite.
Its chief executive, Bruno Morel, explains the aim is first to help these women and children rest and meet their vital needs such as having a hot meal and be able to have a wash.
The NGO plans to shelter up to 400 people by March 2017, when the construction of the site will be fully completed. They will be housed, fed and provided with social aid.
"We are going to support them in their asylum applications. In time, they will be directed towards reception centres for asylum seekers," Morel said.
A first reception centre opened in the North of Paris last November in northern Paris which houses male migrants.
According to Emmaus Solidarite, 30.000 migrants settled down in and around Paris and since June 2015. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
