- Story Text: Big wave surfers are gearing up for the World Surf League's Tudor Nazare Tow Surfing Challenge, which looks set to go ahead on Sunday (December 12).
The promising forecast with solid swell and clean conditions at Praia do Norte in Nazaré, Portugal, should produce 40-to-60-foot faces, according to Garrett McNamara, WSL Tours and Competition Big Wave Consultant.
Eighteen of the best big wave surfers are heading to Nazare for the competition.
Kai Lenny (HAW), Lucas Chianca (BRA) and Justine Dupont (FRA) all put in impressive performances the last time this event ran in February 2020. They will all be surfing in the competition on Sunday.
Nine teams of two competitors will surf twice during the day over six heats, with each team member alternating between surfing and driving the team's jet ski.
Four awards will be up for grabs: Men's Best Performance, Women's Best Performance, Best Team Performance ans the Jogos Santa Casa Most Committed Award.
