- Story Text: Dozens of Santas and Christmas angels rode their colourful motorcycles through Berlin on Saturday (December 11) to bring joy to children and keep the Christmas spirit alive.
Armed with the prerequisite beard, presents and red bags, Santas on motorcycles, scooters, quads and even trike bikes toured the city to deliver presents to people in need as part of an annual tradition.
"It is something you are looking forward to. We are driving through several parts of town and normally people wait for us and are looking forward to seeing us, so it is just great to be part of it," said Wolfgang, who has taken part in the rally for almost ten years.
"Last year my wife and I set up a scene from Aschenbroedel (Cinderella) and I dressed up as the prince, but this year I am Santa again," he added.
Another Santa, who wore a Christmas tree on his helmet, said: "I dressed up as a Christmas Tree because my Santa costume got too small for me," and laughed.
The "Berlin Christmas Bike Tour" took off 24 years ago.
"Back then, there were only three Santas on their motorcycles but look at what it has become," said Alicia, who dresses up as Christmas angel with her daughter every year and joins her husband on the motorcycle.
"I get goosebumps when I think of it. You can't explain it, you have to experience it. It is really cool."
"The moment you see how little brings so much joy to the children... that is just amazing. And that is why we do it," said her daughter Silvia.
