We even had plans with a family member, my father. We had planned this and then he died just before the start of the pandemic. It was difficult to organise everything because we were very close to my father. When things calmed down, I became encouraged to carry this out, without him, and also thinking about her happiness.'' - Story Text: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic did not stop dozens of couples from tying the knot in a mass wedding in Lima, Peru on Saturday (December 11).
The ceremony was held on the beaches of Venecia and Barlovento in the district of Villa el Salvador, despite cloudy and damp weather.
Couples previously went through a health screening to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Groom, Walter Cisneros, said he was happy to marry.
''The truth is, it's a challenge to marry after so many vulnerable moments for society, for us as a family. Now at least to have a moment of happiness in this union, makes us all smile. I feel very happy. It's a unique moment, once in a lifetime and we have to see it like that. A moment we will enjoy and we have to give it our all,'' he said.
After the ceremony, starry-eyed newlyweds picked up their marriage licenses and posed for pictures on the beach.
