- Story Text: Residents of Tudela in Spain's northeastern region of Aragon assessed the damage caused by serious flooding after Ebro River burst its banks on Sunday (December 12).
Storm Barra has been causing havoc in northern Spain this week, flooding homes and submerging cars in flood waters.
Tudela resident, Emilio Garrido, 72, said floods had never reached his building in his lifetime, as he surveyed the damage in an underground car park with his neighbours.
Two people have been killed since the severe weather hit Spain's northern regions, police confirmed.
Spanish broadcaster TVE said River Ebro had reached a depth of 6.18 meters on Sunday, however by the evening, as the rain had stopped, the levels were decreasing.
Spain's emergency military unit deployed 292 troops, 102 vehicles and a helicopter to Novillas on Saturday (December 11), the state broadcaster RTVE said on its website, as part of the emergency operation.
The Ebro River is expected to reach its highest point in Novillo on Sunday night, authorities said.
Heavy rain from Storm Barra has affected the regions of Castille and Leon, and the Basque Country in addition to Navarre and Aragon, where dozens of people have had to be evacuated.
