I knew that 'KEYS' would be this homecoming, I knew that it would be based on the piano and really kind of coming back to who have always been. The whole time I said, this is my lane, I'm driving in it, I own it. You know, these type of, these types of energies. I think what surprised me was really pulling together the 'unlocked' part to really allow there to be this kind of like duality and expressing the different sides of, of who I am and how I express music."

- Story Text: Alicia Keys returns to her roots for her eighth studio album "KEYS" released on December 10th.
The double album features tracks produced in a style Keys considers "original" and showcases the piano, lyrics and who she was when she debuted in the late 90s. The second "unlocks" her creativity and features reimagined interpretations of the "original" tracks.
The native New Yorker said she recorded the album faster than she has ever done before in her career and was confident it was finished.
"It's done because it really hits the marks that you're, that you're wanting to hit, and it has a certain sound that feels like it all goes together. And it, and the concept in this case, it's a really clear concept of what this is. And it felt complete."
After an over 20 year career Keys has newfound joy in being fearless and open.
Keys revealed part of that growth came with an increase of confidence in herself.
"I do feel like in this particular process, and at this time in my life, I really do feel like this idea of kind of holding back or being, you know, not feeling like you're worth expressing how you feel, what you're going through, your elegance, your greatness, your specialness, you know, is a loss," she said. "It's something that I personally feel like we all have to like get rid of."
The 15-time Grammy winner recently started a skincare line called Keys Soul Care and will release a young adult graphic novel titled after her 2012 single "Girl on Fire" in March.
Keys will begin her world tour in June 2022 in the United Kingdom.
