- Story Text: Leftist Latin American leaders hit out at the U.S. and capitalism in Havana, Cuba on Tuesday (December 14) for the 20th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).
Presidents such as Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega, Bolivia's Luis Arce and Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro were present at the event hosted by Cuba's Miguel Diaz-Canel.
A common topic addressed in most speeches was capitalism and "American Imperialism".
"Global plans to fight COVID-19 are insufficient and the economic and social crisis the pandemic has brought upon. The planned objectives have not been achieved" said the host of the meeting, Diaz-Canel, on the first day of the summit. "Conscious of the dramatic situation generated by the mix of all of these factors, the American imperialism didn't only stop, but it strengthened its plans for domination and hegemony in our region."
In the following days the ten leaders from the ten nations that make up ALBA will discuss issues such as the creation of joint strategies to face the post-pandemic world.
