SYNOPSIS: Playing for the Silver Jubilee Cup England, in white, were matched against a Commonwealth team -- in red, white and blue. Here the Commonwealth captain, Sinclair Hill of Australia is passing the ball to Anthony Devich of New Zealand, who scores. But England quickly retaliated with this attack giving John Horswell, who was on forceful form, the chance to make the score two all. Queen Elizabeth's heir, Prince Charles, played for the Commonwealth, scored once and then quickly scored his team's winning goal to give the Commonwealth team a 6-3 win over England. Anthony Devich, rated as an outstanding Polo horseman, scored three goals and Sinclair Hill one. The award for the best pony in the match went to Harry Horswell's Echo. Sinclair Hill and Prince Charles receiving their trophies after a closely contested game. Amadu Yakabu of Nigeria completed the Commonwealth four. Earlier another England four played against South America. Although it looked like one of the best sides fielded since World War Two they were no match for the South Americans -- seen here playing in white with England in dark blue. Through six chukkas in wet conditions the South Americans showed superior co-ordination and marking. Here their captain, Gonzalo Pierez scores the winning goal. Gonzalo Pierez receiving the 1978 Coronation Cup from Queen Elizabeth. The South Americans won with a score of ten points against England's five. Later the Queen presented the World of Sport Trophy to Lord Cowdray's pony, Tito. South American player A. Aguero receiving his trophy from Queen Elizabeth. The match was sponsored by the Wills tobacco firm -- polo is regarded as having increasing spectator interest and potential.
