- Story Text: The Syrian opposition has proposed its own ceasefire plan and is awaiting reactions from other participants of the Astana talks, Syrian Opposition Delegation spokesperson, Issam al-Rayyes, said on Tuesday (January 24).
"In seven days we'll get the reply about our ceasefire paper. We will see in seven days for sure (if) the regime will keep violating the ceasefire or the militias. Because now the areas under ...besieged is mainly besieged most of the forces are Iranian-backed militias so we are waiting to see what will happen on the ground", Issam al-Rayyes told media after the talks ended.
"It is easy and clear for the guarantee countries to put their technical observation whether it is satellite or drones or whatever so we have two countries guaranteeing this violation (won't happen) and we are expecting from these countries to help in observing the actions on the ground and who is violating the ceasefire", he added.
The head of the Syrian opposition delegation to talks in Astana, Mohammed Alloush, has said he had reservations about a final communique issued by Russia, Turkey and Iran and that he expected Russia to respond within a week on the opposition's ceasefire proposal. He also said that rebels would never allow Iran, which backs Syrian government forces, to have a say in Syria's future.
Russia, Turkey and Iran on Tuesday were working on a statement to reaffirm a fragile ceasefire between Syrian warring parties that could agree to establishing a mechanism to observe its compliance and pave the way for a U.N.-led peace settlement. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
