French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron said in a meeting with Lebanese leaders on Tuesday (January 24) that under him France would fully commit to help reach an inclusive political solution to end the Syrian conflict.
Macron, a former French economy minister, met Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri on his second day of visit in Beirut.
The previous day he addressed French expatriates in the country as well as students at ESA (Ecole Superieure des Affaires).
Conservative Francois Fillon is the frontrunner in France's presidential election in opinion polls but his ratings have dropped slightly and surveys predict an increasingly tight race between him, far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen and independent centrist Macron. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
