- Story Text: Frankfurt airport carried on according to regular business on Sunday (January 29), despite U.S. President Donald Trump's new travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries.
An airport spokesman told Reuters that operations were hardly affected. German media reported that 20 passengers were stopped in transit in Frankfurt on Saturday (January 28) evening.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told U.S. President Donald Trump that the global fight against terrorism was no excuse for banning refugees or people from Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States, according to her spokesman on Sunday.
Steffen Seibert said the German government regretted the entry travel ban on refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries, and would review the consequences for German citizens with dual nationalities.
He said Merkel had expressed her concerns to Trump during a telephone call on Saturday, after his order on Friday (January 27) for a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the United States and temporarily banned travelers from Syria and six other predominantly Muslim countries. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
