- Story Text: Police confirmed on Monday (January 30) that six teenagers were found dead on Sunday morning after holding a party in a garden shed in the town of Arnstein in the southern state of Bavaria.
The police are assuming their deaths were the result of a tragic accident.
"As far as we know at this point, nothing indicates a violent crime," said Bjoern Schmitt, spokesman for police in Lower Franconia. "However, it is not yet established what led to the death of the youngsters, and the prosecutor's office has ordered the autopsy of the victims in order to establish exactly that. The autopsies are expected to take place already today. And furthermore, the prosecutor's office has ordered an extensive examination of the blood of the victims. We want to establish whether there were any foreign substances in the blood of the victims. We hope to get more clarity of the cause of death after the post-mortems and examinations."
Local media spoke of a possible carbon monoxide poisoning, and Schmitt confirmed that a wood-burning stove had been in use during the youngster's party, but that any connection was still being investigated.
The teenagers, five young men and a young woman, were between the ages of 18 and 19, and were found by the father of two of the dead youngsters after he become concerned that they had not returned home. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
