- Story Text:Police staged baton charge at people allegedly involved in stone-pelting in India's northwestern Jodhpur city on Tuesday (May 03) after stones were hurdled by two groups at each other post Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
People raised slogans and marched on the roads as police hit them with sticks to disperse them.
The stone-pelting incident came after a dispute that started on Monday (May 02) over the replacement of one community's flag with another. Several people were also injured in the Monday stone-pelting incident, said media reports.
"The atmosphere is peaceful as of now. A curfew has been imposed in 10 police station limits from one o'clock (0730 GMT) to 12 o'clock (0630 GMT) tomorrow," said Jodhpur Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav.
Meanwhile, Chief of Rajasthan State, Ashok Gehlot appealed to the people to maintain peace and end the tensions. He also said the police had been given orders to handle the anti-social elements strictly. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
