I’ve got to say, a lot of the fake news media out there wanted to write a story that this campaign would be the death of Donald Trump’s 'America First' agenda. Ladies and gentlemen, this isn’t the death of the America First agenda." VANCE, OHIO GOP SENATE PRIMARY WINNER, SAYING: "We are going to battle against an establishment left that thinks that people’s jobs, that think that people’s values, that think that people’s basic livelihoods and sense of dignity in their own country is not something worth protecting. That is the battle we’re about to fight ladies and gentlemen and this is the team I want to go fight it with." VARIOUS OF SUPPORTERS CELEBRATING AT WATCH PARTY (SOUNDBITE) (English) J.D. VANCE, OHIO GOP SENATE PRIMARY WINNER, SAYING: "As much as he will try to claim that he is one thing, his voting record and the evidence suggests that he is the very worst of modern American politics. A guy who has spent 20 years failing the people of Youngstown and now wants the people of Ohio to give him a promotion, but we’re not going to do it. Are we ladies and gentlemen?" I think he’s a stronger candidate and stronger on issues. Being a pro-life candidate, being strong on oil and gas, manufacturing, strong at the border. I think that matters to Ohioans and JD’s definitely going to win." VANCE AND HIS WIFE, USHA, WALKING OFF STAGE AFTER VICTORY SPEECH

- Story Text: Trump-endorsed J.D. Vance emerged the winner of a hotly contested Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Ohio on Tuesday (May 3).
The 37-year-old author and venture capitalist edged out his opponents with a little over 32% of the vote.
“The media wanted to write a story that this campaign would be the death of Donald Trump’s 'America First' agenda,†said Vance during a victory speech at his campaign watch party in downtown Cincinnati. "Ladies and gentlemen, this isn’t the death of the America First agenda."
Some Vance supporters believe the win symbolizes Donald Trump's influence over the Republican party as he considers running for the presidency again in 2024.
"After the endorsement, you know, he came to victory,†said Vance supporter Kurt Manning. “Trump’s still the kingmaker."
The author of the national bestseller "Hillbilly Elegy," and former Trump critic opened up a narrow lead since Trump’s endorsement over his nearest rivals, state lawmaker Matt Dolan and former state Treasurer Josh Mandel.
"I think it definitely helped and we’re grateful for it, so, thank you to President Trump," said Vance supporter Margot Athon.
Vance will take on Democratic U.S. Representative Tim Ryan in the November election for Ohio’s open U.S. Senate seat.
"As much as he will try to claim that he is one thing, his voting record and the evidence suggests that he is the very worst of modern American politics," said Vance.
The Vance campaign said they’ll spend Tuesday (May 3) celebrating the primary win before getting back to work in preparation for November.
"I think he’ll definitely win," said Athon. “I think he’s a stronger candidate and stronger on issues. Being a pro-life candidate, being strong on oil and gas, manufacturing, strong at the border. I think that matters to Ohioans and JD’s definitely going to win.â€
