- Story Text: Dozens of members belonging to a caravan of Central American Mothers arrived in the Mexican state of Chiapas on Tuesday (May 3) as they march towards Mexico City in search of their missing relatives.
The caravan, which entered the country on Sunday (May 1), includes people from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua, whose relatives have gone missing in Mexico, while heading towards the United States.
Mothers and other relatives of missing migrants made a stop at the site of the December 2021 road accident in Tuxtla Gutierrez in which 49 people were killed after their truck turned over.
''It was painful, those of us who have a missing relative (in migrant truck accident). We are filled with mixed emotions being here. I personally feel nervous, excited and sad knowing this is what Central American countries have to endure and suffer," said Claudia Gonzalez, mother to a disappeared Honduran migrant.
Created by the Mesoamerican Migrant Movement back in 2004, the caravan is expected to pass through various Mexican states in an effort to demand action from authorities in the search for their loved ones.
