- Story Text: The last rites of Indian singer-turned-politician, Sidhu Moosewala, were performed by his family members in his hometown of Mansa district in northern Punjab state on Tuesday (May 31).
Moosewala, born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot dead by gangsters with 24 rounds of bullets on Sunday (May 29), said media reports.
The funeral procession, which took off from Moosewala's residence, saw a huge sea of supporters who had gathered to pay their final tribute.
Sidhu's alleged cold-blooded murder in broad daylight has caused a political storm, with his supporters protesting for justice for his death, said media reports.
Sidhu's musical career took flight in 2017 when he moved to Canada. Moosewala bagged the Best Lyricist title at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards in the same year for his rap song 'So High'.
The singer made his political debut in 2021 when he joined India's opposition Congress Party. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
