- Story Text: Residents of the settlement Rubizhne in Luhansk region of Eastern Ukraine are collecting water and hiding in bomb shelters as fighting near the town intensifies.
Olga, one of the residents of a bomb shelter located in a basement of a kindergarten, told Reuters reporters on Wednesday (June 1) that there are about 140 residents currently living at the premises, but at one moment there were more than 600 people in the shelter.
“We do have a pharmacy, with which we can provide help not only to our residents of bomb shelter, but also to people around us,†she told reporters. “I repeat once again - we are supplied with groceries, we don’t have a humanitarian catastrophe.â€
Another resident, Valentina, told Reuters that living in a basement for several months has been difficult, but they are getting by. “The guys are waking up at 5:30 in the morning, they bring water, they chop wood, and they cook on a bonfire. They give us hot water, they are trying to cook some hot meals for lunch for us†- she said.
UK military intelligence reported last week that the fighting intensified in the Luhansk region of Ukraine as Russia seeks to encircle cities of Severodonetsk, Lyschansk and Rubizhne. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
