- Story Text:Thousands of Buddhist monks and devotees flocked the hilly town of Dharamsala in India's northern Himachal Pradesh state on Wednesday (June 01) to attend the teachings of the Tibetan spiritual leader in exile, the Dalai Lama.
The ceremony, which was held at Tsuglagkhang Buddhist Temple in the town, took place after a gap of two years owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
"First time after the COVID (-19) I see such a big community gathering together and it makes me happy," said devotee Monika, who was a visitor from abroad.
A large number of young school students also attended the lessons.
The 83-year-old Noble Laureate advised the students on developing their inner spirituality by practising compassion instead of chasing material happiness, said a student.
The Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. After a rebellion against the Chinese rule in 1959, the spiritual leader had exiled himself to India and has since been living mostly in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamsala.
