- Story Text: A Jubilee beacon was lit in the Pacific Island nation of Fiji on Thursday (June 2) evening to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's record-breaking 70 years on the British throne.
The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Suva, was held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in capital Suva.
Elizabeth will light the Principal Platinum Jubilee Beacon at her Windsor Castle home, with hundreds of others to be lit across Britain and other Commonwealth countries, including Australia, India and Canada.
"Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth," Elizabeth said in a statement.
