- Story Text:India's health ministry reported 4,041 new coronavirus infections in the past twenty- four hours on Friday (June 03), the highest in nearly a month, driven up by a record number cases recorded in the financial capital, Mumbai.
Mumbai reported 704 cases on Thursday (June 02), lesser than the cases it reported a day earlier but nonetheless a high number.
With lesser cases in India and the government relaxing coronavirus restrictions, residents in different parts of the country including, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai among others have failed to follow mask and social distancing norms and prevent the virus from spreading.
"Corona(virus) is not yet over, it's all over…and again the corona(virus) cases are rising so, we have to take safety for ourselves…as many of them are not wearing (masks) but we have to keep our safety," said a Pune resident, Harsh.
Mumbai was one of the first cities to be affected in India's devastating second wave of the pandemic in 2021, but was lauded for its efficient tackling of the crisis.
India has recorded more than 43 million cases and 524,651 deaths since the pandemic began. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
