A security blanket was thrown over India's holy city of Amritsar on Saturday (June 04) ahead of the 38th anniversary of Operation 'Blue Star'.
Hundreds of Police personnel were seen patrolling the streets of Amritsar on Saturday.
The flag march was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police, law and order Parminder Singh Bhandal who said his team has been patrolling the alleys around the Golden Temple.
His team was also assisted by commandos from the army.
Indian government forces and Sikh militant engaged in a bloody gunfight in the year 1984.
The ensuing gunfight caused massive damage to the Sikh holy site, Golden Temple.
A bullet ridden holy book is up for display for the public in temple as the state marks the anniversary of the military operation.
The military operation was carried out in June 1984 on orders of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to neutralise the Sikh militants led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
Around 1,000 people including civilians and Indian soldiers were killed in the operation, according to various reports.
The operation at the temple triggered the assassination of Gandhi when two of her Sikh bodyguards shot her in revenge for the assault four months later.
Her assassination, in turn, triggered massive anti-Sikh riots in which about 3,000 Sikhs were killed. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
