- Story Text: Royal fans descended on The Mall outside Buckingham Palace early on Thursday morning (June 2) as Britain readied to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, marking a record-breaking 70 years on the British throne.
Many came adorned in British flags as a party atmosphere started to envelop London at the start of a four-day public holiday.
''We've come from Manchester, Devon, Birmingham, all over. One girl from Paris all to be together. We arrived here just after 6 A.M. to get front row, the best view. So we're here to have a good day,'' Royal fan Alison Lodge said, as she raised a glass of fizz with her friends, who were wearing matching Union Jack hats.
Other fans even took it a step further, with some spotted dressed as William Shakespeare and a royal guard.
The 96-year-old marked seven decades as British monarch in February.
Millions of people across Britain and the world are expected to join the festivities to honour the monarch, who has reigned for longer than any of her predecessors.
