- Story Text: Tens of thousands of people flocked to Buckingham Palace to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee on Saturday (June 4) and watch a pop concert that started with the 96-year-old monarch having tea with Paddington Bear.
In a short video, the queen revealed that she kept the Bear's favourite - a marmalade sandwich - inside her ever-present handbag. She then started tapping along to the tune of the Queen's rock anthem "We Will Rock You," which opened the show.
Watching the show at St. James's Park, adjacent to The Mall, 22-year-old Megan Newman said she never thought she would see Queen play in her lifetime.
Nigel Edwards, 59, said Queen was "fantastic" but the real drawcard was Queen Elizabeth herself.
Celebrating the monarch's jubilee was also 30-year-old Walter Kerr's motivation to attend the event but his wife, Olivia Kerr, 28, said "I'm more here for the party, but I love the Queen too".
Elizabeth herself was not present, having missed a number of Jubilee events because of "episodic mobility problems" that have caused her to cancel engagements recently.
Four days of celebrations to mark the monarch's 70 years on the throne began with a military parade, a Royal Air Force flypast, and the lighting of beacons across Britain and the world, with tens of thousands of people joining the festivities.
